Notius is a personal knowledge base with database-like power. It helps you store and quickly retrieve any kind of information. Notius offers more than it shows at first glance — it’s a full-featured toolset built to support a wide range of use cases. This documentation will help you unlock its full potential.
Motivation and history
The project began with a simple need: to have a single place for all types of notes, optimized for fast access and long-term use. Previously, our notes were scattered across different systems, and it was often hard, or even impossible, to find what we were looking for (sounds familiar?). Over years of internal usage, Notius grew from a one-page-search-centric app into a comprehensive system. It has been shaped entirely by real-world needs and everyday use.
Is it for you?
We built Notius for how we work as software developers, which gives you a small hint at where it shines — but it’s not just for devs. If you’re the kind of person who takes a lot of notes and wants to stop losing track of things, Notius will likely be a perfect fit — it’s made for those who treat their notes as a long-term asset.
The system is primarily designed for desktop use. The mobile app works well for quick access or capturing something on the go, but the full experience comes alive on a larger screen. Notius also supports small team workflows via shared spaces, allowing you to co-edit content, maintain internal knowledge, or publish structured outputs externally.
If you primarily use your phone and only keep a few casual notes, there are probably other tools that might fit better. But even if Notius isn’t your main note-taking system, it can still play a useful role alongside others. (In fact, this very documentation is just a published board.)
Use cases
Notius is flexible enough to adapt to different workflows. Here are some of the typical ways it's used:
- Everyday notes and ideas — quick thoughts, structured logs, or personal agenda (e.g. time tracking, todos, logs)
- Code snippets — with syntax highlighting and easy organization
- Core personal or business data — like company info, car documents, insurance details
- Progress tracking — for tasks, goals, or self-directed learning
- Sharing information and files — either via public/private note sharing or inside a team space
- Galleries — for images, screenshots, mockups, or visual archives
- Structured documentation — personal knowledgebases, project docs, internal wikis
- Research collections
- Meeting notes
- Planning and tracking boards (kanban)
Is there a free plan?
Yes, there is currently a free plan available (at the time of writing), but it may be limited or restricted in the future. The free plan includes access to all core features, with limits on data usage and note count. Once activated, your free plan remains free forever.
Data safety and security
We take data security seriously. Multiple backups are in place to ensure your data stays safe. We've been storing years of our own knowledge in Notius, so protecting it is just as critical to us as it is to you.
